Let’s do it again!
Feel like some long weekend breaks? Our pop-up breakbeat banger is back with a nod to the sounds we love wrapped in outdoor vibes from your old mates, Boomtick. Old school is all grown up and out during the day on a weekend – scratch that itch with all your crew on a warm and sunny Monday at The Rosemount with the most skilled of them all, A SKILLZ and KID KENOBI (playing a classic breaks set).
A.Skillz is a true party rocker behind the turntables, captivating crowds with his ability to embrace all aspects of music that he takes inspiration from and mash them up into a unique cocktail, infused with his own signature flavour of funk. With his DJ bookings taking him to the four corners of the world, he has appeared on stages big and small and no matter what venue or style, he always brings the house down.
Having clocked up over six million plays on his Soundcloud page, his records have gained the support of the biggest names in the industry, from Jazzy Jeff to Pete Tong, Annie Mac to Zane Lowe, whilst his DJ mixes have won over an army of supporters and resulted in him being commissioned by Radio 1 to put together a special DJ mix for their Beatles tribute night, that even had Paul McCartney tapping his feet. His James Bond mini mix is the only ever mix to be played on every daytime show on Radio 1 in the UK, whilst his productions have appeared in films, TV adverts and many a computer game.
But we love him the most for every time he’s played in true funk-style at Breakfest, don’t we?
Without question, Kid Kenobi is the greatest breakbeat DJ in Australia.
Since his early beginnings behind the decks in 1996, Sydney based Kid Kenobi has steadily risen to his current place – and we can proudly say we’ve been there the whole way.
True Kid Kenobi fans will remember those early 00’s shows at Ambar; heaving with bodies and sweat and sound they were so-thankful-to-be-part-of-it-all type stuff. He really was the poster child of the Australian scene while Australia, particularly Perth, was the epicentre of breakbeat – and he’s been brilliantly tapping in to those fond memories with a recent run of mixes and sets dedicated to that amazing era of music. And that’s exactly what you can expect from him on Monday 27 January = a classic breakbeat set from your boy Kid Kenobi.
A Skillz and Kid Kenobi = one hell of a double header.
And as a full nod to the OG crew, we secured the unbelievable talents of Mr Finger Lickin’ himself, Jem Panufnik for our One More Time concept art.
Can’t wait to see you and your crew – one more time!
