Hitting the scene in 2001 after entering a mix-tape in the Channel [V] DJ Competition and winning the state finals at Metropolis Nightclub, Philly became known around town as a hard hitting, smooth mixer.
Coming runner up in the national comp further cemented his DJing career.
After a few years playing everything from hip hop to funk to breaks at various places around town, Philly started running his own nights. Hydrophonik was a successful, though short-lived start where the sounds of tech and electro in house and breaks were smashed out to a receptive crowd. Bringing out interstate acts such as Dopamine ensured these parties will not be forgotten.
In 2006, Phil enlisted the help of fellow Boomtick resident, Ben Mac, to start the now infamous Bootleg nights. By playing nothing but bootlegs, mash-ups and white labels, punters can be guaranteed a massively funky and fun night out.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Philly, with the help of Mono Lisa and girlfriend Megs, started his second night at Ambar, pushing the more banging sounds of breaks and house, Force Majeure started with a bang in 2008 and is set to continue its success in 2011 and beyond. On top of Force Majeure and Bootleg, Philly is also a core member of the Japan 4 crew at Ambar.
His production sucess is nothing to be sneezed at - with tunes War, Lost and Won and Good as well as remixes Skank Out (Mickey Slim), Funky Heroes (Groove Diggerz) and many more.
His record label, Grits and Gravy, took out Best Label at the Perth Dance Music Awards in 2010.
With his first production releases coming out constantly under the name Philly Blunt, we're expecting more big things for Phil in the DJ booth and the studio.
