In 1998, Ben made a smart move to Perth and his career as a DJ took shape. At that time, Perth’s underground dance music scene was starting to thrive as band sets at bars were replaced with DJ sets. By 2001, Ben had regular bookings at many of Perth’s leading dance clubs – he also nabbed his first few sets at Ambar. Here, he discovered breakbeat and neither Ben, nor Ambar, have looked back.

Always keeping it fresh and never restricting himself to one style, his sets flow in and out of hip hop, mid-tempo breakbeat, house, proper party breakbeat and good old tech/tribal house. A resident at Ambar since 2001, you can catch Ben rocking it out ‘til the wee hours of the morning at Ambar’s regular Saturday nights Japan 4 and quarterly Bootleg nights.

As one half of the Bootleg Brothers, Ben Mac and Philly have been putting on Bootleg nights at Ambar since 2006. Playing only bootlegs and mash-ups, and being in some of Perth’s favourite and funkiest DJ’s, the Bootleg Brothers can guarantee you a fun night out.

Ben Mac’s skills on the deck have seen him voted Number 1 House DJ in the Perth Dance Music Awards 2007 and again in 2008, and has come in at #10 in WA in the INTHEMIX Top 50 DJ Poll for 2008.
