All hail the Godfather of breakbeat, Rennie Pilgrem. One of the last remaining stand of producer/remixer/DJ, Rennie Pilgrem was at the crest of the rave explosion 20 years ago and a (if not the) pioneer of the nu-breaks sound. He started out in Rhythm Section; authors of the early breakbeat hit ‘Feel the Rhythm (Comin on Strong)’. Then came ‘Thursday Club’ and ‘Thursday Theme’. Hell, all breakbeat enthusiasts have every release from the Rennie Pilgrem and Adam Freeland label Friction – especially the Nu Skool Breakz compilations. Another Pilgrem-run label, TCR (Thursday Club Recordings), spread the breaks gospel and we were all on board the Pilgrem train with his tracks ‘Like No Other’ and ‘Hey Funky People’.
He's remixed for Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (yes, WILL SMITH), Freq Nasty, Meat Katie and Arthur Baker. Rennie’s latest work flies the Nu/Jungle/Breaks flags and assures us we’re in for a classic Rennie Pilgrem performance.
Boomtick loves Nick Thayer, and dang has he exploded into the biggest Australian export over the last 12 months, Like BOOM!
Nick Thayer has forever been every UK breakbeat DJ’s favourite co-producer, he dropped the album Just Let It Go in 2010 and that was the turning-point in his career from great to out-of-this-world. The album was nominated for Best Electronic Album at the Australian Independent Music Awards and caught the attention of the world’s biggest DJ, Skrillex. Thassright, Nick Thayer drank out of the bass and dubstep cup and he’s poppin’ tunes bigger than Popeye’s guns! Now signed to Skrillex’s OWSLA label with the ‘Like Boom’ EP – his most successful output to date. Nick Thayer shows scant regard for genres, tempos, or accepted notions of what club music should be, and as a result, delivers the best club music.
Our kind of club music.
The opportunity to see three acts of this calibre, supported by the best of the Boomtick bass elite, in one room on one night is rare-as-hell.
Don’t miss MAJOR BASS.
Just…don’t.
